I always feel ambivalent whenever seeing end-game items in one hobby are priced lower than entry/budget ones in another hobby.. Mar 22, 2024 at 4:49 PM

Still captured by Carbon+Hive synergy. Bright yes sharp yes. But omg that hyper-realism and impact too overwhelming to maintain sanity.

At this point, I am strongly surmising either component only can't excite me this much. It's clearly in the realm that I always call 'combo synergy'.

Still all conditioned by something exceptionally good to me though.

@Inoculator I had similar struggles before when sr1a in the house (verite remains not used for weeks), later I realized things I thought 'lost' were just there with different presentation and my ears can take care of distant vocals better than I thought (as I failed to find 'critical missing' in the end).

The best way could be just let yourself and them go freely, and observe how things stabilize.

Verite cups also always seemed to have a bit of resonance where the dip is, so it does mask it a bit. Just a dash of color.

By the way, I do feel hd600 is a little too hot in mid treble, and most nearfield 2ch is relatively uptilting than farfield to me. I ultimately let hd600 and sr1a go, and my 2ch settled down in far field configuration. Now everything else non-verite is manageably close to verite. And that solved the problem at the end of the day.

No wonder, I didn't check the site for the past few weeks. I haven't had much interest in BH's dynamic amps but that piqued my interest a bit as estat tube offerings are quite rare except some $$$ hybrids.

@ChaChaRealSmooth Testing with two different SS energizers: small (srm-212) and big (kgsshv-c) boxes. Switching one to the other feels ridiculously dramatic particularly regarding microstuffs and heft. Not very sure yet if that's synergy or scaling though.

@dncnexus That sounds interesting. Comfort-wise, I'd like to have a little larger diameters in internal holes.

But concerned with potential sonic changes in negative ways -- they sound really good as is (+ measure damn nice too -- short review with a set of measurements forthcoming)

I'd say Verite Closed is a close second. VC probably out-resolves it by a bit because of BE-coated driver, but ESX900 is a lot slammier and more fun. Definitely sign up for the loaner when it happens!

I sometimes use a VST plugin to adjust left/right balance. My hearing is not symmetric. Has been different in each ear for all my life. Imaging pulls slightly left. But when I play with left/right balance I end up with it right at center. It ends up sounding wrong if I give the right ear more volume and try to get the imaging dead center.

All amplifiers used to have a balance control. Then it became the audiophile thing not to. No balance knob, no tone knob. As if all rooms are identical and all ears are perfect. Maybe my hearing loss is karma for buying into that bullshit over twenty years ago!

Also... if this L<-->R stuff really matters to a person, do it with a test tone, not with what you think /ought to be/ stage centre.

Unless you're watching the video: in which case the visual clues probably override your ears anyway.

Andrew (Resolve) on The Headphone Show and DMS are pretty good. Joshua's video quality is really polished but I don't get much from his reviews in terms of concrete substance. I also enjoyed Metal571 but he doesn't post reviews anymore and I know he got into some scuffles with the SBAF high council.

I regularly listen to my porta pros with yaxi pads straight out of my LG phone when going to bed, and just about every night it sends me into an existential crisis where I question everything I have built to/accumulated in this hobby.

Over the summer at YG acoustics a customer wanted a full size floorstanding pair of speakers in champagne gold. Unfortunatly the tanks of that color at the anodizing place were not big enough for the panels. I wanted to see how bad/good it would look.

Yeah i felt like either it would work great, or look terrible. A big problem is color matching between the panels. Thats why they didnt offer other colors. They have a red, but there were so many issues with it. Mostly just black and silver, much easier to match panels.
