To Elex or not to Elex? Only real “grown up” headphones I’ve owned are HD650, and not really interested in owning multiples at this point...

Cool, SW51+ is the other amp I’ve been contemplating as well. I do like the Lyr quite a bit though, but curiosity of course. There’s a used LP for sale up here in Canada for ~$430 USD I’m eyeing ATM.

If you’re planning on sticking with high ohm dynamics, I’d go for the SW51. I haven’t heard it but all reports say it has a truly special synergy with high ohm dynamic cans. And tube rolling for it will be much cheaper than for the LP.

For me, the reason to use the Elex over the 650 (I have both) is superior bass on the Elex, and a bit more dynamics on the Elex at low volume. These attributes make it better for desk listening while working, where ultimate technicalities aren't important (to me, anyway).

My attempt at being a music student was fun, but success very limited. And with the moody clubs, it's when /they/ want, not when you want. Except, of course, the club called home :)

@Syzygy perhaps this time. However peace and democracy are not guaranteed. I think a lot of people forget this or take it for granted. So when it happens, it’s important to celebrate and to remind people so they continue to be vigilant.

What might have happened if the rally had been held today and not on Jan 6?

There would've been no point in a rally today, since the counting and acceptance of the electoral college votes is the final step in the election.

There's always tight security during an inauguration, so I expect nothing would've happened had one been assembled.

Interesting point. For speakers with a 4Ω nominal impedance, take 3dB off it’s sensitivity number compared to 8Ω (since 2x amp power needed)

In general I feel like there aren't enough high-ish sensitivity designs on the market, especially that aren't physically huge. It's basically Tekton, Zu, some Klipsch, and DIY. Would love to see more offerings that are happy with <25 wpc amps.

Jot (bal out) is clearer, more precise, but less smooth and more 1-dimensional compared to Vali. Vali is a bit softer and more rounded, esp in the bass, but overall it’s just way more engaging and expressive and emotionally involving, at least for the types of music I generally listen to. There’s just more dimension and atmospherics and natural tone. Tubes FTW.

And when you share the page, it shares the damn AMP URL, etc. Half the time when I use one, part of it doesn’t load, or it scrolls weird or some part of it doesn’t work. Companies have a hard enough time with one damn website and managing its mobile design, let alone two.

In my experience the perception of tightness in the bass is also tied to how the energy 10khz and above is rendered. The opposite is also true. Bass waves modulate high frequency waves after all. More D2 in the bass can also give a thicker texture too. Modded Super 7 kills my First Watt F7 in low end slam though.

more grain, presence, and complex distortion in the highs indicative of many SS designs give bass more 'crunch' with transients. I bet if you ran a low pass filter, perception of tightness and bass quality would change quite a bit.

It is pretty common. I think orignally because most of the input transformers were 110V and somehow US made the jump to 120V (123V at my house my meter shows). Jeff Baxter and Duane Allman did this as well. Anyhow, things get weird around 100V.
