I got sick of it almost immediately. Never mind the song, this this is the second time this week that I've abandoned music because the instruments are more upfront than the singer.
I had to relisten to it just now and I actually think the instruments are even with Floor Jansen's voice. Maybe it's just that I've grown inured to the HP-3's recessed vocals and am listening to this with the HD600s (lent the Klipsches to another friend back in September).
There are dangers to growing accustomed to weird voicings, haha.
It might be something to do with my high-frequency hearing loss, which means I often have to boost vocal frequencies. But I don't hear everything like this, and I still suspect a loudness/mixing production choice.
Shit, take care of yourself and tie down everything that isn't already fixed (that includes the cats). Wishing you and yours well, Nick.
Yeah. Weather actually pleasantly cool in mid/high-20s (Celcius). As for other things mood is still shit but I'm trying to be less grumpy. Ghostwriting work keeping my brain elsewhere.
I am with you. I cannot stand "vocal-up" mixes. I almost can't listen to Paul McCartney's "Driving Rain," because of this. I just listened to it just last week because the music is so good, but damn I need a -3db or -6db "vocal down" mix.
Rock music is usually mixed in with the other instruments, almost too much sometimes, like certain Soundgarden recordings. Sometimes I actually do want to hear Cornell belt it out.
