Stylistically it was very Kurosawa influenced (visually). And since many early cowboy movies were heavily influenced by his samurai movies I felt like they brought those two elements together in a very cool way with the two final fights - sword fight and gun fight.
@Skyline The silent staring followed by explosive violence is a style pioneered by Akira Kurosawa (which may or may not be historically accurate, that's a separate discussion). Duels in Westerns were also influenced by that style. The fight begins with the battle of the spirit and then, the violence is meant to only be the conclusion. The episode did that perfectly IMO.
It's Clint Eastwood in space, who was just a wild west samurai, whose cultural lore had its roots in the Tang dynasty's stylized kung fu novels. Nothing new under the sun.
@Zhanming057 The full-circle coming together of both the “sword fight” and the gun fight was brilliant IMO. I hated that they gave the kid a name.. or maybe I just hated the name they gave him.
