Thanks! Cousin settled on sticking with his phone for LDAC but somehow came around to looking into iFi Zen DAC + Senn HD599 for desktop listening, but might be worth looking into the ibasso as well.

4.4mm balanced out is a deal breaker for me. All my balanced cables are 2.5mm and that should be the standard. f'ing iBasso and iFI

I've never felt comfortable with 2.5mm, they all feel dinky and slightly fragile. Honestly I feel 4.4mm might ultimately be a good thing for portable rigs come wider adoption, but I'd rather desktop units and similar stayed on with XLR cuz it's just a sexier (and safer) standard.

Also saying this here to keep noise down but I find it funny that you say not to listen to Lady Gaga on orthos cuz it was getting an HE4XX in house that gave me an urge to revisit her early discography, no joke :))

And 2.5mm feels super sturdy to me. I have XLR->2.5mm adapters and feel really comfortable with it. I would say to each their own but we need a standard whatever it is. Since it’s portable I prefer 2.5mm

Hahaha the HE4XX was one of those modern orthos that lacked texture but had better bass control than loads of affordable dynamics— it's a PERFECT headphone for modern pop!

Treble was much though. I'm sporadically EQ-averse and even with mods it was painful to listen to.

Point about 2.5mm taken well to heart, maybe it's just loads of the ones I've seen have been cheapo ones but the additional mass of the 4.4 inspires confidence, and looks neater to boot. I'd much rather have XLR for desktop but I remain an iFi fanboy despite their insistence on pentaconn :))

I am aware some people find making cables with "pentacuntal" connectors infuriating, which is another point away from it.

Rhythmdevils, If 2.5 feels substantial to you, why are all the kids on HF bitching about how many of the 2.5 connectors they have broken. Even A & K have a 4.4 connector on their latest DAP and they invented the 2.5 balanced connector.

Kids on head-if bitching about something is evidence that it’s not a problem. Head-fiers are mostly retards. I can’t imagine breaking a 2.5mm jack. Seriously I don’t even know how if I wanted to. Do they run over their iem’s with semi trucks? AK might be switching because everyone is stupid and using 4.4 so they’re going with the flow.

This stuff is supposed to be portable! And I want lightweight connectors on my iem’s that don’t pull them out of my ears if I use an extension cable.
