Had been hoping to fully refurb the PF-800, maybe even spring for a new fancy tonearm that would pair nicely with Zu 103r, and have that take over main duties over my Pro-ject. Now I am thinking both go and I get some sort of no flash, reliable workhorse.
@Merrick Working through that. My local shop really likes the Audio Technica LP7. Might be a fun budget option to keep the upgrade-itis away for awhile. Sounds like can't go wrong with a Technics. I am willing to start thinking up to $3k, so also considering VPI and Rega stuff in that price range. Would love tips from folks though!
@rtaylor76 I have actually ever taken a serious looks at technics, I will read up. All in this same price range, also curious about the mofi ultradeck or well tempered simplex. All different philosophies, just ready to try something that is attempting to be purely about the music. Flash and gimmicks be damned.
The Ultradeck looks way overpriced to me. Looks on par if not lower than a VPI Traveler V2. The beauty of the Technics is in the coreless motor - it has tons of torque that belt drives wish they had. The 1500c is a decent deal under $1000. If you want to go fancy, still nothing wrong with a Sol with that unipiviot arm.
