Good points. I still like my HD6xx's as a headphone that generally sounds "correct" to me but even that isn't neutral. Also tend to shy away from 'analytical' sounding headphones... that's a slur AFAIC.
That stock timbre, weird though it may be, was what drew me in with LCD2Cs. And yeah, that unique dynamism that they have. I thought that was fantastic. Like nothing else I've heard.
So I might wind up preferring stock pads + EQ over these Dekonis. No way you could EQ that bass performance back in, but the upper-mids? Maybe. It really is less scooped, and the treble is more refined in ways I know can't be EQd in. But you just know there is no getting around what that stock pleather does for the seal.
I had LCD2C (with leather and velour pads) at the same time as LCD2F. Both from mid 2019. I hated the classics, maybe my LCD2F are a good sounding unit ? Still like them. classics way to dark and rolled off for me.
Bit of a Goldilocks situation. Sometimes that lusher and punchier sound is *juuuussst* right. When that sound clicked for me (which is to say, it didn't initially) it was like "Wait... oh f**k yeah!" And from then on I never looked back on it. I feel like I always gotta have something with a sound like these around now.
@HotRatSalad I would expect more people to prefer the 2F, honestly wouldn't surprise me. The prominent dip is make or break. I personally don't find them overly dark. Cymbals almost sound a bit splashy to me. To me HD6xx's sound more rolled off on the upper extreme.
I am all about the bass and midrange on them. They've got that over the 2F for me, though the 2F is generally the better balanced headphone.
You should be able to order the slanted vegan pads direct from Audeze. You have to provide your serial number, but they are THE best pads for the LDD-2C IMO. Still retains killer bass, tames the top end 8k peak, and the slats give them a bit of space.
@rtaylor76 So you CAN still get those directly from them? I was curious about them but it didn't seem too hopeful. Have to just reach out and see what they say. Is there a specific name or part number I should ask for?
