    I use a dac with a built in volume encoder, not sure if it is digital or analog. What I can say is it is more transparent, neutral, and dynamic compared to one of the best pres I have tried and owned (14 yrs), a deHavilland UltraVerve 6SN7 pre with Goldpoint volume control.

    @bixby hmm... my phonostage can do analog to digital... I could actually run my turntable through a DAC with similar capabilities.
