This is the classic and not the closed, right (mavellous naming scheme, indeed)? I remember getting ears on them and rather enjoying how much slam and vive they had, but yeah the voicing was slightly too muted for me. I recall there was an engaging convo about how ortho tweaking is its own beast, would love to see how you tame this one.

Or is it a case of the diaphragm + magnet array being quite unsuitable for it, enough that even with some tweaking they might be complete doodoo?

We’ll see. They need damping just like vintage orthos. I’ve added some but they need moar. There’s actually nice quality treble in there!

I’m now listening to a bright LCD-2. :) lots of tuning to do but maybe potential...

I mean, the LCD-2 Closed has damping, but then they also add an MKP cap, like what would be in a speaker crossover to roll off the highs.

This is the Classic. Judging by this I’m guessing all Audeze orthos are likely improperly damped because this is God awful.

Did you get yours used, because mine has foam on the back side. Maybe someone removed the rear damping foam.

I didn't touch anything in the enclosures except the pads which I swapped to Dekoni Elite Velour. The only other mod I did was tightening up the stupid headband which my massive noggin stretched.

Yeah I got it used but not modded. Mine has the black foam disc too but it’s not an acoustic element it’s just there to make the slots between the grills black. It’s super light foam that has no damping effect nor does it help with resonance.

I will add some damping and give it a try, but yes it will likely damp the bass down.

Yeah that’s a good thing for me with the classic. It’s got typical under damped rubbery farty bass. If I get these sounding good I’ll pass them around.

I find them best with the vegan slanted pads. The stock pads had peaks in the treble that the vegans helped with. Bass is also not as farty, still strong though.

Meh don’t get an ears rig. If it sounds good it is good. ;)
