I always feel ambivalent whenever seeing end-game items in one hobby are priced lower than entry/budget ones in another hobby.. Mar 22, 2024 at 4:49 PM

While there must be more good randos than bad ones, bad randos drives out good as per Gresham. Sigh.

While M4 couldn't benefit from 2x upconverting, 3db attenuation worked like a magic. Unsure if it's dac or midstream (Erish) effect though.

That's interesting. I personally didn't like much how 6xx driven by M4. It doesn't sound catastrophic, but not very engaging and articulate in ways I like. But it could be just me -- my love-hatred with 6xx has a long history and documented here and there. lol.

I came across some Excel models I built many years ago. I was proud of them at the time. Looking at them now, the use of formulas was pedestrian. Layout = disjointed Color palette was pathetic. I know what you mean!

More interestingly, the builtin hp out was ridiculously synergistic when easy driving loads paired with. Great head stages, good intimacy, and lovely tone (albeit a little cheap and childish).

Not sure how similar they are internally, but I find my M2 to be perfectly agreeable for background listening. Definitely very intimate sound. Almost like being in an overdamped booth, but for background listening, it is perfectly fine. As a DAC only at this point. Only use HP for monitoring real time.

@Syzygy : I was in that loaner tour and liked 1421, too. I could remain sane. Similar with the 1541 audition occured months later. This time around, perfection seems to be obtained with much higher maturity, which is driving me crazy. Oh well.

Feel your pain... on account of moving to a new home last year. Great fit for my family, but unlike the old house, there's no room where I can listen to 2ch without waking up the kids. Thus my 2ch went from almost daily use down to once a week. Unexpectedly pushed me back to majority headphone listening... which is all good, but not as good.
