Very similar to the Hemp from memory, but seems better extended to me in the treble. Not getting the slight gaps in treble I remember from Hemp. Actually dont feel compelled to immediately EQ them, so I think the 2k spike is less that typical, maybe less than hemp even. Vocals are really fantastic on these.
Using a frequency generator there is indeed a lesser version of the GRado 2k spike, a bit of a dip from 700-1.5kish, and a spike around 4.5k-5k. Another spike from roughly 5.8-6.2k. None of them too bad though, and the rest of the FR seems fairly well balanced. Bass extension pretty good, goes down to 29hz before dropping like a rock.
Bass has a little boom to it as I think there is a good deal of energy around 200hz making it warm/thicc. Saw someone on Amazon complaining that there was bass distortion, pretty sure that is what was meant, as it can sound a little bloomy thanks to that bloat, unusual for a Grado. Got some pretty nice slam to it.
That 800kish dip combined with the Grado upper mids albeit in a tamer form, has a interesting effect on vocals, they both sound slightly withdrawn and very clear at same time. Actually 325x reminds me of the Aeon Open RT, though its air region is far better done than the Aeon, doesnt murder me. Also more upper mids of course. Very chilled out Grado, wish I had Hemp still to compare.
Yeah I am pretty sure these are either the Hemp drivers or are certainly heavily based on them. They have 38 ohm impedance now and similar sensitivity to hemp. it is a smart move to have the Prestige series offer this kind of sound as its very friendly and will hook people on the brand.
