imho versus stock they're a bit more vivid in the upper mids, and bass is tighter with better extension. headstage is nearly wrap-around-your head immersive; impressive! (using HD600)
posted my 'initial' thoughts on this tube in the SW thread. TLDR: it kicks ass. "Stupid-grin" inducing. I could happily have just this tube and the stock tube and call it a day with the SW51. Don't tempt me with the Phillips @Elnrik
I also ordered from nostubestore and before I bought I asked if there were sound differences between the two production versions, they said no sound differences at all so I only bought the later production ones.
I asked what years they had (1960s and 70s), but more as an authenticity check and didn't even think about it afterwards. Glad to know it wouldn't have made a difference.
Got these today, incredibly fast shipping! Burned them in for a few hours before doing a first listen and I do agree they’re an improvement. On high Z out, bass is better extended and far less bloated. Texture and overall engagement is improved too. It’s not an immediate hit you over the head improvement, but listening more reveals the areas these tubes beat the stock ones.
Definitely agree it's a subtle but noticeable improvement that becomes more apparent over time. Slight improvements in a lot of areas that become greater than the 'sum of the parts.'
Whoah, arrived early. There doesn't seem to be a way to distinguish the decade from the code. 4th digit: "Last digit of year (1958–1978), tens need to be guessed". Mine are all U9005608J, so 55/65/75 I guess. Will pop them in shortly.
