For anyone paying attention to my 300B escapades, LinLai WE300B repro is 99.22845% of new stock WE300B. Only about 100 hours on the tubes, and there are minor construction differences, namely in the getter positioning and plate coating, but if I had it all to do over, I'd just grab the LL WE300B repro's (also called Cossors) and be done.
Marv would probably prefer the LL E300Bs, i.e., the Acme/"european sound" versions of these tubes. IOW, super clean SS sounding. NS WE cuts the difference between LinLai E300B and repro WE300B.
I’d still buy the WE 300B. For the price, the build, and the warranty. Had a few 300Bs bite the dust (Electron Harmonix / Golden Lions). The EML 300Bs and ACME Psvanes have been going strong as heck for the past 1 1/2 years….Tube roller.
Yeah, 5 year warranty on the NS WE300B was a big selling point for me, too. Simply stated the construction (and sound) on both of the Linlai tubes is head-and-shoulders above even the best stuff I've seen coming out of Psvane. Sound-wise the LL WE300B is neck-and-neck with the NS WE300B out of Rossville.
My view is, with super tubes, even the uncommon amp isn't enough to differentiate between them and hard core is required. The Jeffrey Jackson or Donald North custom amps area is needed to take advantage of the summit type tubes otherwise it's a waste. It's something I experienced myself, common components on grail tubes equals roughly the same experience. Top design, components and build thins the herd.
