Well that’s your problem dummy. You’re supposed to max out the volume all the way up before removing or plugging in headphones. That’s why it hurts so bad when you first play an album.
Ugh, sorry to hear it. It might be worth keeping an eye on eBay, where there are often Elex for sale with only one side working (alas, the only listing right now has a dead left channel).
Typical Focal... Should be broken coil, still can be repaired if it's out of warranty, but might need skill and steady hands. I tried to fix my Elear once, saw the broken spot, tried to solder the coil back, but by pulling the soldering iron away, I pulled some coil with it... Ugh.
I'll just drown my sorrows in HD600 and booze. threw a DMM on the coil leads and it's an open circuit. Leads are still attached, so it's a burned coil. I'll reach out to Drop even though it's probably out of warranty and second hand. new driver cone and coil shouldn't be absurdly priced, but who knows if even available. I haven't done any research yet.
Ah, sorry I didn't make myself clear, it should be an easy fix to skilled hands. According to my observation, it should be the hair thin arch part where the coil connects the cable socket and the coil cylinder, so you don't need to worry about touching any major part. A guy fixed my Focal for ~ $15 in CN, and Elex should be the "not too problematic" model as it should has some goo on both ends of the arch.
I was searching for headband breakage info and stumbled across this video which seems to describe @Ti_Leo's repair. Too bad it's in Bahasa. Really interesting teardown in any case. https://youtu.be/HjE0CGvDkb8
@gixxerwimp yea, Focal headphones are quite pretty after disassembling. And I saw someone mentioned using some strong tape to fix the headband on Head-fi or somewhere else. Definitely needs to open the stitching.
Yeah, if the flying leads to the VC had been damaged I'd have at least tried to resolder them, but both were visually okay. Good news is these were Gaspasser's old phones, so he hooked it up with an RMA from Drop - they were still within warranty coverage.
