@YMO, that would be an audiophool, unless he was a cable wholesaler.
(If anybody bothers to look ---perhaps because they need the space--- they will be finding off audio and computer cables, adapters, etc, around here for ages after I'm gone!)
Like some of the others, I have a bunch of big ziploc bags for sorting and stash everything into a big box. Several boxes. Actually rolling cases, because I have enough gear to setup for a 30 piece band. Anyhow, I also have cable ties or twist ties on nearly everything.
The long XLRs will have the ties labeled with lengths. Stereo use cables I will tie in pairs (or even twist) and use some red tape to mark the R channels. For headphone gear I have the adapter bag, extensions bag, etc. Also have the "misc" bag for meets which contains one of everything. I may or may not have multiples of the "one of everything" bag. I have too many cables. Help.
Anything I'm not using now, but plan to use in the near future, I shove under my bed. It's really a very safe place. A quick check shows 3 amps. Extra cables and chords are in a loose pile on a closet shelf. Anything I don't plan to use—which is a f**k ton of stuff because "ya never know"—goes in boxes in my office closet.
Lost a whole bin full of cables in a flood. Moulded-on connectors are not proof against several days immersion in dirty water. Some of it was obsolete computer stuff anyway. But now if someone gives me a parallel-socket printer, or an external SCSI thingy, I won't be able to use it :(. lol.
