As someone who believes that quite a few conspiracies are very plausible or real, I'm 100% amazed this many people bought into such a crap-tier conspiracy. But I guess people who failed high school science need something to buy into as well...

@penguins "Junk Conspiracy" as it is sometimes called, is an incredibly effective and widely used social tool, for multiple reasons. It helps gain favour with the average person, who will throw out all conspiracy due to the "Junk Conspiracy" and it also helps suck in sometimes up to half the conspiracy field, sowing disinformation and discord amongst those who are interested.
