Headphones are better than speakers???? I can buy 150$ powered monitors that are flatter in FR, cleaner, better tonality and have smoother treble response than any headphone including the ridiculous 4K Abyss. So much said in that video is bullshit.
Also…Um I was around in 2005 in this hobby. There were tons of good, powerful headphone amps. And the Abyss is just a fancy 1978 Fostex T50. It’s headphones that have not progressed especially orthos.
Last year they ran over a pair of 1266 headphones with a truck and gave them away in a competition. I could give less of a shit about the Abyss's durability (apparently they survived but no warranty was offered). Why beat up a pair of headphones that many of us could never hope to buy for a BS publicity stunt? Why not just give away a pristine pair? Arseholes.
@ChaChaRealSmooth asked them for a Diana loaner. What I wanted to do was do a counterpoint to ASR's hatchet job review. Instead, the guys there told chacha and no one on our site had gear good enough for the Diana.
I reached out to them too, they just flat out said "we're not interested" in a way that implied they were on another level to this site the same as the response Dan got.
Here's another ridiculous video. Apparently the Abyss 1266 needs to be in the exact perfect position and fit on your head to sound right and you have to never move or they won't sound right. :-0. Never seen so much crazy nonsense about a headphone.
Remember this is a company that has been selling 'high end' audio cables for decades. Showmanship, vague untestable claims and avoidance of analytical scrutiny are common tactics in that field.
I have all JPS ultraconductor cables in my system (I got them for free) and they sound really good. Neutral and resolving. I’d love to hear an Abyss ortho but they won’t even give this community a chance to hear them and like them and buy them.
The power cable thing has me worried about all my JPS cables. But the tiny wrinkles in the diaphragm may not even be a problem. In working on modding LCD headphones I have accidentally dented the diaphragm because the magnets are so far apart, leaving the diaphragm very exposed. Even a huge dent in the diaphragm (between magnets) didn't change the sound at all.
