When looking to acquire furniture I take a carefully chosen dog clicker to hear the furniture response to an impulse. Drives my wife crazy and receives strange looks from staff and customers alike. But hey, a well chosen sofa can do wonders for room acoustics.
Agreed. It may have been a requirement when we got our last couch that it wasn’t pleather or leather… Adding a textile couch and a felt rug pad with thick wool/jute rug on top did wonders for acoustics in a living room with hardwood floors.
/Don't/ sit on it. Sit on the floor and lean on it. You now have the sofa-back padding behind you instead of wall.
Whilst I've never been tidy/rich/sophisticated/smart enough to have a sofa listening positioning, I have found this to make a difference in every hifi house I've visited.
