I got into mech boards recently and it's just a lot less strain to type on. Also the sonic+tactile aspects can be tweaked a great deal which I believe adds to appeal. Same with aesthetics.
Mechanical keyboards are fun because the whole neighborhood can hear when I type. I like the feel way better but that's it. No custom keys or anything special, just a basic mech keyboard.
I have a Japanese keyboard with variable weight switches (35-50 grams). I use this tool for 8-12 hours a day, so having something so ridiculously tailored to me makes sense.
4. Programmability of keyboards. If you are an editor or photographer, you probably would like macro keys to access features you use often instead of memorizing key combos
5. non-standard layouts. Smaller, bigger, split, ortholinear, rotary encoders are all possible
100% hate the fact that it's impossible to simply buy normal looking, good keycaps on demand. Instead you have to wait 18 months and get a set that would be normal except the ESC key is purple and the function keys are replaced by anime flowers.
Haha, thanks, that's where I bought from in the end (this was last year). Still exhausting though... "These ones look good! Oh, they're in Russian". Finally ended up just buying blanks to avoid having to scroll through any more pages.
