that blows. Is the power back now?

Came back after dinner. Happened because someone seemingly ran into a power box / line (in a very difficult spot to run into).

What really irks me is that they'll probably get off with nothing more than a slight insurance increase despite all the inconvenience and direct financial damage (fried electronics) they caused a whole neighborhood (1/2 city block).

We experienced something similar when a semi hit the key transformer for the entire block. I hope you didn’t lose any expensive kit.

A friend in this city had no power for a week! After some bad weather we had last weekend. Glad to say that we did not... but trusty generator was standing by with a full spare can.

Thanksgiving 1998 in the Mountain Top Surf Club, Choteau MT ("Clinton slept here, but not with me"): somebody had taken out the critical power pole so the bar was run off a generator on the owner's truck. Couple of outages but otherwise an excellent night featuring great pizza, locals vs visiting hunters vs college kids back home from Missoula and a cowboy one-man band playing Beatles songs in waltz time. Good times!

At least it wasn't 15˚F outside. We've had several "fun" power days.

I didn't lose anything as I have surge protectors for all of my electronics, but some other stuff in the neighborhood did get damaged.
