The previous owners of my house remodeled and scrapped all the popcorn ceilings. BRB, going to reinstall in my vaulted living room, don't tell my wife.

Just put shag carpet on all surfaces.

I don't think the stipple ceiling makes any effective difference? unless these are huge popcorns...

My ceiling and walls are all popcorn. Can confirm they do jack diddly for sound, though it could be that having a massive blank expanse of wall isn't best practises regardless.

shag carpet on the floor ok makes sense, shag carpet on the walls might make sense, not being Spider-Man what is the shag carpet on the ceiling supposed to be for?

@Azimuth you tell me "acoustic ceiling" and I'm thinking drop ceiling/tiles with actual STC rating and absorption coefficients. You tell me popcorn ceiling and I'm thinking drywall with chunky stucco/plaster/gold glitter sprayed on it. Or maybe they spray on something soft and squishy in your neck of the woods?
