Still working on that. Maybe try some LS3/5a or similar, or may go cheaper to start with some PSB Imagine Minis, but I’m still contemplating options at this point. Don’t know if the Decware will have enough juice for anything but a single driver/widebander, but we’ll see.
@EagleWings, not sure about Omegas, the cabs seem a bit larger than what I’m looking for for my desk. I believe he will make you a custom set if you want, but I’m not buying anything new right now, I want to experiment a bit (also because I’ve never heard any Omegas, not sure I’d like them).
@rlow would certainly be curious what you think with an LS3/5a. I found they still like some juice to really come alive. single Aegir for example got loud enough but was lacking. That said, the Naim NAIT 2 is like 12 wpc or something like that and it was my favorite amp I have heard with my LS3/5a.
@Inoculator Some say they’re made for tubes, especially the higher impedance ones, but some people also say you have to throw a lot of watts at them to swing voltage. We’ll see I guess.
They do run well on tubes. But you need at least 8w or so to get them going decently. The Zen is a flea watt amp and just can’t push the crossover and 2 drivers in a 3/5.
I can only speak to the prototype/pre-production Veri-Fi Vanguards, but with ~8W of SET 300B they we're at their (lower) limit, IMHO. They sounded hungry for current (like, iirc, Inoculator's Sugden).
I don’t have a ton of confidence that the Taboo can run much for speakers, but figured I’d try it for a lark. Was mainly looking to hear it with cans - going to try grabbing a set of orthos at some point soon which apparently it was designed for. Of course, if it sucks with the HD650 and Elex, it may get flipped pretty quickly. That’s the great thing about the used market.
