Besides the medical term I've always associated "Atrium" with "gathering place" since that's how the parlance translates here, even if it doesn't always overlap with the classical architectural definition. Language nuance is fun and idiotic!
recalling my history of architecture classes, it's derived from Latin meaning the entrance to a larger space, or literally "door/entrance to a hall".
Oh, thanks, folk. I guess I should have googled. So, a headphone, then, could indeed be an entrance to larger space. It all makes sense now! :)
