just skimming, but does this mean we have a standard that increases signal amplitude until the playback measures out of spec from the input signal? I'm not well read in on all the different specs, but I have always found any response measurement at different signal amplitude to be very informative.
i.e. blasting 600W into a bookshelf speaker to get to 102db at 30Hz "minimum maximally acceptable loudness" or 104dB out of HD650s is just about the dumbest thing I've heard of. But the changes in the contours in response given different input and output magnitude are interesting to me.
A standard way for finding maximum power of speaker before out of spec non-linearity occurs. This is likely to be applied to Sound Reinforcement speakers as a way to allow fair comparison between various SR systems. I wish they would have gone further and also recommended some spectrum and sweeps in the standard report.
