Some stiff competition from the like of Arctic, Scythe, and Phanteks it seems, especially in the CPU tower cooler space, but Noctua just has a good reputation for years-long support. Might make it well worth the price premium (not that they're often significantly different)
None of those manufacturers make 40mm server fans that I can source though. There’s one two pin Scythe, but Noctua has eight models to choose from in the 40mm space.
Ahh didn't catch that you needed a 40mm fan, yeah that's a relatively niche market. And yup, I remember reading that you got new mounting gear gratis @Thad E Ginathom! That helped make my mind up on getting an NH-D15 for my build; fairly certain that, unless 600W GPUs (ouch!) are any indication of CPU draw in the future, this heatsink may last a couple platforms
Hahaha... I have the same amount invested in these fans on my new router as the old TP-Link cost new. I'm running OPNsense on a SuperMicro SYS-E300-8D in a living space and quietness was the goal. I wanted to run VLANs and to be able to specify custom DHCP options for testing ZTP stuff.
Do these fans have power cords attached so I could use one to cool a speaker amp that is cramped into a too small shelf or do they need to be wired into a computer etc? I'd love a super quiet fan for a future cramped speaker amp. The small USB fan I have is too loud,
@rhythmdevils You might be better off with a standalone desk fan perhaps, but there are a bunch of adapters that'll allow you to plug PWM computer fans and the like into the wall. Not tried one before but may be worth investigating?
