I buy a lot of new vinyl, and so much of it is just trash, very frustrating. Usually warped to some extent is my biggest pet peeve, and generally a lot of just bad-sounding pressings. I clean and re-sleeve everything anyway, but would be nice to not feel like I basically have to do that.
I know this is kind of crazy, but I buy most of my LPs off amazon because return policy. if there's a single wiggle or distortion, it's going back. I did that about 5 times over with some shit pressings, but eventually i got something listenable.
QC is out the window on these totally slammed, backed up for 6 months+ pressing plants. A few are trying to maintain their standards but it’s not the norm.
Totally. I've reluctantly reintroduced CDs back into my life for this reason. I've just lost faith in certain labels on the vinyl front. I wish all I cared about was '60s jazz. Sigh.
A combo of poor pressing quality, some pretty full record shelves at home, and introduction of Roon into my life has meant a lot more buying digital on bandcamp rather than records to support artists.
