Wow, surprised by this considering the almost universal praise that it’s better than the original. Are they well broken in? Sure you just didn’t get a bad pair (of course that’s pretty hard to be sure unless you had another)?
@rlow I had a B stock pair, but I chatted with the CEO Mads who said all the returned speakers are QC'd & measured before being passed to the next customer
It actually makes sense, if the OG version was intentionally smoothed out. You can only go so far with a cheap tweeter. Try to tickle too much out of it and you only end up getting the characteristic timbre of the said tweeter
The MK2 was an improvement on other areas though; tonal balance was better overall (no more shouty mids), treble detail was better (but with the caveat discussed above) and bass was maybe a tad cleaner
Agreed at 100h i doubt it’s a burn in issue. If you don’t like em you don’t like em, shit happens. You seem to live pretty close so i hope shipping is reasonable…
@rlow I had Raal HSA-1b, Rotel RA-1520 and Simaudio Moon 250i for amplifiers. HSA-1b was the best and Rotel the worst in terms of graininess, but it was certainly present with all of them. DAC was Soekris 2541 and source Qobuz via Bluesound Node 2i.
I am now listening to a pair of ATC SCM 19 v2's and In terms of smoothness I'd put the three speakers in the following order:
S400 (OG) > SCM19v2 >> S400mk2
