Not just PA thing...whole mid-Atlantic thing. It's their version of SPAM. Barf.

It's more an ethnic thing than PA thing... having spent most of my life in PA I can't say that I've seen many peeps eat it that weren't German heritage/grandparent age. Similar would be kiszka (blood sausage) by Polish heritage/grandparent age people.

My wife had a polish mom an german dad and I had to look at both of those disgusting dishes when visiting for holidays. The parents/grandparents were the only ones that would touch the stuff...

    1. scrapple isn't very similar to Spam, less meat + various flours
    2. you ain't gonna find true scrapple within 700 mi of Missouri

We can get it in Texas, FWIW. Family loves it, air fryer is perfect for it :)

I've never had scrapple but was always curious to try it after seeing it on DD&D several years ago. My dads side of the family is 100% German and my G-ma used to make blood sausage. I never overthought it when having it as a kid, but I certainly wouldn't order it if I saw it on a menu now.
