Yeah, AMEX has more xfer partners who are intl. The thing with AMEX is most MR rewards cards have a much higher annual fee - high roller stuff. Chase Sapphire Preferred is relatively cheap. Some AMEX cards have points on supermarkets and restaurants too, but probably not apples to apples since so confusing with the card lines.
Compare AMEX Gold $250 and Chase Sapphire Reserved $95 fee. See how they work, what portals need to be used. Bonuses and how much to spend to get them. And what your spending patterns are. I think the Chase is better with x5 with travel.
Credit Unions are the last place you go for reward credit cards with a good ROI. The only credit union credit card to get is the one with no rewards but a ultra low APR if needed.
I had the Chase Sapphire for the travel points till two years ago. Booking a flight *abroad* with Chase was always a headache. Since then, I've switched to highest percentage of cash back.
I'm leaning heavily on sticking to my current cash back strategy to avoid lifestyle bloat. Would like to travel, but with inflation those travel points are going to be worth less and less.
