I'm all for one standard for everything but to me the lightning connector itself seems more solid than usb-c disregarding how cheaply apple makes the cables. The spring contacts being inside the phone and not he cable like with usb-c suggests otherwise but i have several lightning devices here with the same cable over 5 years old without a problem so idk.
@Riotvan The downside is that iPhone jacks die. People upgrade so often that they don't know this. But I had to scrap my 5.5-year-old iPhone SE (2016) because charging became very undependable. I replaced it with the 13 Mini, but I had rather have smaller phone.
@Claritas my 7plus of a similar age still works fine so does a 10 year old ipad air. My newer ipad pro has usb-c which feels much more flimsy. Am up for a new phone since this one is getting slow and the battery is toast, if the new 14 still has lighting i wouldn't mind it. Only use it for charging or dongle.
