RU6 SE > old 2m cable I found in a drawer > Jot 2 RCA in > Jot 2 bal out > Clear Mg vs.
RU6 bal > new 30 cm Chinese silver plated cable > Jot 2 XLR in > Jot 2 bal out > Clear Mg
With SE, there’s more oomph on the low end, a bit more “fun”, maybe a little more musical. I much prefer high gain on the Jot.
With bal, there’s much better instrument separation, more air, better stage, more treble, more detail/plankton. High gain sounds congested. Better for critical listening for sure, maybe a bit less fun.
Instrument separation on balanced out is so good that I’m not sure yet if it actually is good. :) It’s great to be able to dissect the music, to hear every detail separately, but it’s on the verge of sounding unnatural.
Ok, currently listening to Timeless on RU6 balanced vs. SE.
Yes, there is a difference: Balanced is a bit cleaner overall, and there’s more bass on SE. The difference is smaller than on the Jot, and the cable might play a role, too. Not sure yet which I like better.
