Noble X: pleasant all-round tuning. A little bass light. Earpieces seem to stay in better than I recall.
Aurisonics: More U-shaped? Solid DD bass. I like the un-fussiness of just sticking them straight in. The silicone flanges keep them anchored good design.
Overall takeaway: I hate sticking shit in my ears. Both with Comply foam. Good seal, bad comfort.
Rockets: integrated cable crazy microphonic, but since I'm just behind a keyboard doesn't matter. Bought these thinking I'd use them for the gym. Would be terrible for that.
If you get really fed up with sticking shit in your ears, try Audio Sanctuary, New Malden. I know that doesn't sound like "London" but it is not far on the train from Waterloo or Richmond, etc.
I only paid them a quick visit about four years ago to pick up some Sennheiser spares --- but it seemed like a nice place.
Will take a look! Thanks for the tip. I've been to Audio Gold (fun vintage stuff but overpriced IMO) and somewhere in Marylebone. I'm sort of eyeing a pair of Quad 57s as they seem plentiful (and cheap?) here.
Switched over to Campfire Andromeda, which is overall a better listen. Good headstage (for IEMs) makes music feel less relentless. More comfortable fit, too. Only starts to bother after an hour or so. Downsides are only okay bass and the occasional mid-frequency that seems to pop way out.
@wbass - I've got two pairs of Quad ESL 57s. They were my father's, & I inherited them. Both pairs went back to Quad in the late '90s for a checkup. One pair's not been used in more than a decade; the other hasn't been used for 4+ years. All are in fine condition. I'd be happy to sell a pair to you, if interested.
I'm in the US now but my family, where the speakers are in storage, are 35-45 mins from London by train. I'm planning to head back just after Xmas. You'd be welcome to come down and audition. And I could drive you and them back if you buy. PM me if interested!
