Great to see some first hand impressions of the current Meier stuff. Have been tempted by the Daccord on a few occasions, since the price is tempting for non-US buyers and generally like WM8741/42 stuff
Re the Jazz ff, I had a Meier amp years ago (Aria maybe?) and found that quite dull/clinical, but this was 10-15 years ago so I assume his designs have developed a lot since then
Comparing the Daccord to the Schiit ESS module (which is the only DAC I could compare it to), the Daccord delivers more detail, more dynamics (greater volume swings) and more treble, but never harsh or incisive. The ESS module sounded smoothed-over and dull in comparison. Not sure how it fares against “real” DACs.
The really big difference, though, was the amp, not the DAC. Leagues apart, in my opinion.
The Jot brought a bit more life than the Jazz into some good groove stuff, but to me that difference was marginal.
Meier describes the Jazz as an amp tube lovers might like on his web page, so I guess it’s not designed to sound clinical. :)
I've liked all the Schiit stuff I've owned, but with strong USD and higher shipping costs it's nowhere near the value proposition it used to be for non-US buyers. Great to have some solid local alternatives - will keep the Jazz in mind!
