People seem to like the JBL 305P MKII (I haven't heard them). Think Massdrop released a version as well. Have you seen the desktop monitor thread?

Vanatoo Transparent Encore One are about $500-600 and nice size, super versatile, good sounding...

If that is a bit high, the Transparent Zero are smaller and cost less...

(I like my LSR30X but they are a bit big for the desk, in super quiet environment there can be some hiss)

Presonus Eris E5 are cheap, have class a/b amps, no internal ad/da conversion and come with rca inputs, so you won't need an xlr-rca adapter and will make full use of the Modi Multibit.

@9suns the price is right, for sure. Have you used the Presonus speakers?

Not yet, was also looking for studio monitors and noticed the Eris had those characteristics. I think the rca inputs, class a/b amps and absence of internal ad/da alone makes it a nice choice in that price range tbh. Have to hear one ofc but seems like a safe bet.
