Don't care. If we didn't poke fun at Dr. Olive PHD by saying we'd rather take it up the ass instead of listen to his old IE 2017 curve, he wouldn't have bothered. But seriously, how many f'ing curve/target updates do we need? I haven't updated anything with respect to my FPC target throughout the years. Most people in the industry think he's a fucktard. Only redditors and ASR seem to lend him authority.
I like recessed upper mids for headphones so can handle a fair bit more spice with IEMs (probably HRTF chicanery) but most Harman tuned IEMs that I've tried were a bit irritating nonetheless. Not sure if I'm just an outlier from the target demographic or what have you but they're... a flavour.
It’s certainly an improvement over 2017, but still room to improve. More concerning is the religious fervor some give to a preference target that is still in its infancy, shouting down anyone that disagrees with it. Humans tend to take everything to an annoying religious level.
Yup, it's the religious fevor / misunderstanding. But much of this is Dr. Olive's fault for not correcting because he's got such a big head and needs to justify his existence to Harmon / Samsung.
I generally don't find it annoying. Tried Crinacle's IEM tool to PEQ my Mk1 Monarchs to it. I do like that treble resonances were largely fixed. And some extra mid bass was added. Is there a way to PEQ headphones to the SBAF target?
@purr1n I think the real tragedy of Olive is that even within Harman's own stable of companies his findings are rarely put into practice. Again - I don't hate the on-ear target, but it's an interesting question whether the method of asking people what they like is a valid basis for a neutral target. I.e. the popular target is a marketing tool, not science.
Auto EQ on GitHub uses Harman if I’m not mistaken. It’s too lean bright. I like using Crin’s site to auto EQ to his target and adjust from there to personal taste.
