I really struggle for this with audio. I’m a trained sensory professional for flavor and am very proud of my ability to convey flavor in words, but fall flat on my face for sound.
That's why I would prefer not to write impressions. It's really hard to express the nuances and be consistent in hearing things because human perception shifts and evolves. And our vocabularies are very limited by our own varied life references. I envy those who can hear well and write well.
On loaner tours, we don't expect Marv quality write-ups. In all honesty, a sentence saying "I like/dislike this" is good enough.
Also, y'all have no idea just how much I feel like I'm blowing smoke out of my ass when writing impressions. Seriously, my hearing ain't that good and my writing is whatever
@JK47 Obviously this is a grand scheme that I have planned where I'm fooling everyone and pretending I know what I'm talking about. Next thing I want to do is buy an APx555 and post borked measurements of stuff /s
@luckybaer In favor of your point, one could read a paper contending that Karajan eventually prioritized sound effects over the deep aspects of music, and still have only a vague idea of what that's like as a musical experience OR one could simply listen to any of his recordings from the 70s on youtube (say, his Brahms' 4th from 1977).
