@ChaChaRealSmooth - the last time I was in Montreal (QC) I was told that (IIRC) a few years before that they banned charcoal and open fire cooking of any kind for the sake of "pollution". Not surprisingly, no foods that require smoking / grilling were available anywhere in the city.
Fun fact - the air in QC has not become measurably cleaner b/c of this.
^ Maybe I couldn't find it b/c my French / Quebecois is not up to par, but I didn't see or smell it anywhere. Also went on a food tour and this was explicitly mentioned by the tour guide (who had to be approved by the city gov) but had a sly smile when she mentioned it.
Not really new news. Child asthma follows pollution, even outside. Worse areas = higher rates. And not sure if Canadians open the kitchen window for ventilation when cooking dinner, specially in winter. Taiwan? Maybe windows open is more manageable.
Yes, Taiwanese love "ventilation". I close the window when it gets noisy outside. Wife in summer: "It's hot, did you close the window?" In winter: "It's stuffy, did you close the window?" ... sigh
Meanwhile the developing world has 4-6x as many people (depending on definition) with near 0 regulations (in practice) about how they can cook and heat their food...
In b4 developed world has more carbon footprint anyways - yes we do, but I bet it's not due to our use of gas stoves... and would a ban really fix much of anything?
I also wonder if this is going to negatively impact health in the long run in terms of how things are able to be cooked and having to have (even) more processed foods which will probably hurt more than a marginal amount of gas stove pollution.
