Entirely possible. HD800 have detailed bass and are almost balanced, but could do with just a touch more treble.

(for me. My hearing falls steeply from 1k)

Try a JAR800S if you can get on a loaner

I like the HD800 bass detail and timbre. The problem is the HD800S bass has a wooly quality.

@roshambo123 , I will keep my eyes out for a pair of HD800 headphones. Did you do the SDR mod?

@Justin S I don't usually do this, but I'm going to break silence on this one- I don't recommend the SDR mod.. (also unpopular opinion.) that's going to give you that wooly bass.

I like my 800S quite a bit. I also have the HD800, b/c, I guess, I'm a weirdo. (And I got it cheap.) Never really interested/motivated to mod. I guess I approach HPs as just different flavors, and none will be perfect. But HD800S is highly listenable with some impressive technicalities.

@Justin S yes, did the SDR mod a number of years ago and never looked back. It preserves the HD800 character and kills the 6khz peak. The HD800S is overtweaked for me. The 8XX can also be fun on tubes if you let it, but it will make some things (like percussion) sound very wrong.

    I run my 800 mod-less.

I guess SDR and 800S both sat poorly with me re: adding "stuff" above or around the driver to "fix" it, but I also am an air/treble/HF whore so I'm mostly unbothered by the naked 800. Also not very consistent logic on my part as I continue to consider a JAR800, though.

You will definitely not regret getting a JAR800 - quite the contrary
