Roon ARC doesn’t work at all. Not one bit of sound coming from my core. I didn’t test it before I went, only months ago. Then, it did work. Yay. But ok, I can use the Qobuz app.
The Helm Bolt and the ETA Mini C must be the worst synergy I ever heard. I only listened to this combination for a few minutes when I got the Mini C and thought it was ok then. But they are both dark, it just doesn’t fit. Garbled mess of darkness.
Fortunately, after I wanted to leave it at home at first, I took the Cayin RU6 with me. That’s not too bad, actually, the two work well together.
Phew.
I followed a tip in the Roon forums and reinstalled the ARC app. Why that should lead from “poor connection” (i. e. no connection at all) to a working app is beyond me, but it did. \o/
Sorry. I could've told you that Bolt and Mini C would suck together even though I've never tried them together. Because it's doubling down on reference. Though I shouldn't have guessed they'd sound dark. Hmm... I dislike Bolt because it's too detailed. I find it distracting. I'm not saying it's poorly implemented (bad sabre); only not my taste. I use Mini C whenever I'm lazy = pretty regularly lately.
Actually, I like detail a lot, which is why I love my Meier stuff so much, too: Perfect detail. :) Somehow, the Bolt and the Mini C just don’t seem to like each other, to my ears the top end air is missing completely, separation is meh, everything feels mushed together and muffled.
I guess it’s the top end. The Mini C doesn’t provide much of that, anyway, and the Bolt is “laid back” in the sense that it doesn’t provide much upper treble, either.
My only issue with the Mini C is that I'm hearing slightly too much elevation between 1 & 2k. It's completely fixed, however, with filters and/or crossfeed from dac2541 and/or Jazz ff. (I always play with those features to get the best out of a given record.) I've been using Jazz ff lately, because I'm too busy to futz around with Lyr+.
