These earbuds are memes in China. I bought them for fun, but surprisingly, they do sound OK, a bit weak in the mids are a tad too much treble, but thery are fine. I'm happy using them if there's no headphones in my reach.
I had the same thing commented on @Lyander 's status, as I liked a pair of cheap IEMs better than UE18+ Pro, I don't know I should feel happy or sad about it.
@Lyander And tonight, I'm settled on that EPZ Q5. I was using UE Live to-go model, which I liked. But after ~ 20 mins in, they just didn't feel right, I can't explain, it's like some itch or discomfort. But once I swapped to EPZ, even though there's a HUGE dip in the mids, things just sounded natural and correct. Guess I just don't deserve those fancy IEMs.
I guess so, the closest analogy I can make it switch from HE6SE on a not-that-great amp to HD600 (even driven by a iPhone 6SE), as all the discomfort, even though most of which wasn't obvious, was cured. It's not the same type of feeling, but yes, maybe dynamic drivers just sound natural to me.
I do like the Andromeda 2020s but the OG Solaris is still my favourite IEM I've tried to date, and that's a hybrid that just sounds like a good dynamic to me. Staging aside (Andro worse at it), BAs are very binary sounding in microdynamics, not as smooth as dynamics.
I can't put my finger on... I think I'm fine with many things like narrow soundstage, a little blurred imaging, and I really appreciate good microdetails(which UE Premier is GREAT at). But this recent cheap DD vs expensive BA comparison really baffles me, as I chose thin sounding over thicccness, and macrodetails over microdetails, this is not me! I don't know...
Haha I've heard lean voiced gear that had note richness and vise versa, also just because something has macrodynamics doesn't mean it doesn't do micro well. BA sound is very much a distinctive thing, I thought I'd hate it but I didn't, but dynamics are just nice especially when well-amped with a good DAC. Also, does it seem like BAs don't seem to scale as much with powerful amps?
1. I don't believe cheap DD IEM could win on micro stuff, but I just didn't want to dive deep using BA, it's like I needed to open myself up, but it somehow hurts. And I do envy BA enjoyers.
2. Now you mentioned it, that EPZ is a chameleon. It sounds thin on my phone, but it was thick on Schiit Hel 2e(?)! UE ones didn't change that much.
3. But since I'm new in IEM game, I found that a pair of these could sound so unique to my ears, for 10 seconds, then my brain EQ kicked in, and the sound got somehow corrected, so anything sounded OK-ish and similar after a short period of time... I just don't know how people compare IEMs, you can't just use the first 5-second impression, right?
