Why people are splooging over MQA and not this confuses me.

The recent Springsteen remasters also used this process, I'm going to check those out as well.

Saw your post @baldr 's thread. Winterland 78 is a great sounding concert. I have been listening a lot to JFK and Knickerbocker from 89

I'll admit I don't have a huge set of references for how the officially released Dead concerts sound, but the Red Rocks '78 sounded very good to my ears. The studio albums sound absolutely stellar, as do the Springsteen albums (although Darkness at the Edge of Town sounds closed in, which I suspect is how the original recording was as it's a fairly claustrophobic album to being with).

I only got into the Dead in the last few months. I really regret not seeing them when I had the chance. So far, Nebraska is the only Springsteen album I've connected with.

Nebraska is spectacular. I always thought Born to Run was a great way to get into him.

The Plangent Process kinda sounds like what I've been imagining that the Manhattan Project might do in real time.

Yeah, man. It's really good, IMO. Stark. A spiritual descendent of Nebraska.

Ghost of Tom Joad is excellent, as is The Rising.

It's good to talk and learn about the music. Sometimes the equipment eclipses that.

My understanding is that the Dead really cared about sound, both live and recorded.

Sadly, they were not very keen on London, so I only saw them a couple of times...

...The last time, I was already near 40, and even wondering why, as I don't like crowds or noise, I was going to a rock concert! It was actually amazing. The sound quality was wonderful, and the only time my ears hurt was when the crowd (10-15 thousand, a modest-size auditorium) joined in.
