Now that it's spring I highly recommend heading out to the Gorge (Multnomah Falls is a popular destination there) and/or Forest Park. Also it's pizza week here so if your friend likes pizza he should hit up some local places like Sizzle Pie and see what specials they're running.

If your friend is at all into sports / soccer, the hometown Portland Timbers have the best soccer atmosphere in North America.

@Merrick I believe he likes pizza, but I'm not too sure if he'll be there within the week. The Gorge and Park does sound up his alley though.
@barelyincollege He's more of a rowing guy actually, but he might give them a shot.

I've heard good things about Apizza Scholls

Kizuki Ramen and Izakaya, best ramen I've had stateside.

There's ramen here in Singapore as well, would be interesting to find out how they compare!
