Mexico City is at like 7000 feet. I don't think it gets that hot there.

Mexico City is awesome all year long. You don't need a jacket in winter. Just a sweeter. Summer is always nice. Right now is between 60 and 70 degrees.

Problem is contamination due to immense population concentration.

Another problem is construction since the soil is swampy and it rains a lot. Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) was build on a Lake (Lake Texcoco) which was later drained.

On top of that there are severe earth quakes. So special considerations must be made when building. Which in many cases don't happen, and result in large and heavy structures to sink unevenly (destroying them), and or collapse causing many deaths (1985 earthquake 8.0 Richter and > 7.0 after that).

I was on my way to my elementary school when the 1985 8.0 quake hit. Part of my school collapsed killing some kids in the morning. A lot of surrounding buildings were 3 to 4 stories sunk into the earth, and partially exposed. Many buildings just flat out collapsed.

Damn. My mother was in Mexico City in 1985 during that earthquake. She still considers herself lucky for getting out without a scratch.

Its swampy land because Mexico City started out as an island city in a lake...

Yeah, if I recall the Opera house (or similar) is like 5m below ground, as the weight of the structure simply makes it sink in the swampy ground below...
