As I understand it, no sample can exceed 0dB without becoming noise, but the formula that puts it all together can. ...I use the word "understand" /very/ loosely here!
Definitely exists. Found some impressively high dBTP numbers in my collection when Jriver added r128. Turn down 2dB and you'll have them handled.
The above advice is mainly for pop, rock, dance. Jazz and classical are much more likely to not exceed 0, or only do so by an inaudible .1 or .2.
I re-did a few files and can hear an improvement, mostly hotter pop and rock recordings. Worth the $10 for the SW
