How could there be a downside, with or without speakers? Unless the house comes with a downside of some sort.

Space is wonderful. I've never had a listening room. (Although I have had a dedicated workshop, which was nice)

@Thad E Ginathom I suppose proximity to work counts. I'd rather have a small apartment near work than give up 2 hours in soulless commute daily.

Unless you're in a bigger city and living closer to work means $4,000+ in rent per month.

Currently temporarily living in a 1600sq ft duplex. I actually quite like it compared to the 2400sq ft 4bdrm house that we sold in April. There's something refreshing about simplifying and downsizing.

I should say that the house was great and all - it had beautiful wood floors, lots of trees, a fruiting pear tree and a large yard. I'm just enjoying the simpler life at the moment. Our yard gets mowed weekly by someone else, I'm 100yds from my child's school and soccer practice, we purged a lot of "stuff", etc..

@Grahad2, yes, the soulless commute is definitely a disadvantage.
And it encourages interest in IEMs!
