What is scaling, and what is resolution?

Tbh I don't understand it much either. Those things you mentioned though make things sound more macrodetailed; kind of like how bright headphones "cheat" at resolution. Utopia kind of does this, except further listening reveals that Utopia is very resolving

Much bullshit and idiocy has happened because of theunthinking transference of "resolution" as digital-image terminology to difgital audio.

But this, I think remains true: in a digital image, showing increasingly close lines, how far down the scale can one still see separate lines? In digital audio, when there is a noise, of combined instruments for instance, can the component parts be detected?

I always thought "scaling" was simply a hardware thing: Does it bring out the benefit of better components elsewhere in the kit?

@jexby Goofy ISP implementation of CGNAT keeps a public address out of reach. Going to have to resort to some VPN trickery to make it work.

@Qildail Yeah, that’s why I thought they’d need some form of a TURN server, but they simply skipped that. Right now it works for me, but we’re getting FTTH probably next year, and as far as I saw I won’t have a public IP address then, at least not a IPv4 one. Personally, I know how to do such stuff and have servers I can use for a tunnel, but many don’t.

SFD-1 Mk2 definitely sounds more spacious than any other DAC I've heard. NFC why (chips? tubes?), don't care, I just enjoy it.
(edit: well, if anyone could tell me why I'd be interested to hear it :p )

I would say time domain is everything.

The entire way we perceive locality of sound is based on time. Our brains effectively compute the difference of arrival time of a sound at each ear to determine the origin of the sound.

Historical condoms: pieces of animal intestine tied with string.

Why don't we have over-ear pads like that?

And why don't ear pads prevent pregnancy?

I thought it was out of phase, maybe the position of them, maybe my tweeter blew. I ended up cleaning my ears, both of them on different days. It wasn't until I was asked to take a photo of them had I noticed I placed the back grill upside down but appearing right side up.

Just a cheap thinkpad from ebay, it was my third one. Just a good option a few years back. but this one has wifi AX on it now. Speed is just crazy. even a i7 cpu I picked up for it off reddit for free, single core it is still faster than my ryzen 1st gen that came years after. I havn't been to any place local.

The best I get in my city is a monthly vegetation day instead of recycling. For e-waste I have to either deliver it, or a private company will post flyers saying they will pick up what ever I put outside maybe twice a year. No clue how it is treated after they pick it up.

Huh, really? My understanding is it is like a regular CD in all ways except it was pressed using Blu-ray production equipment, ie more accurate lasers. If it can play in a regular player, don't know why it shouldn't rip. Try multiple drives and programs - dBPoweramp, EAC, Cueripper.

Thought so too, but it was unreadable on my dvd drive on my laptop. I might be able to try it on other devices, but it is unrecognizable on my laptop.

I considered a bluray slim drive, a few on ebay. I will update this with my progress and maybe make a thread into my cd format adventures

That might well be the difference between a consumer item, easily available, and an electronics-trade part that has to be searched for.

I love the stick-ons, in various shapes and sizes, for various uses from feet for devices, through wall/door-knob protection, to making pushbuttons immediately findable even in the dark.

If the stick is good, does it make a great difference? Unless you need longer, actual feet.

That kind of makes sense. If you think about it, a tape head and tape is kind of like an isolation transformer. Matter of fact, the Neve analog tape emulator is just this...two coils really close together. It does other stuff like emulate the saturation, which maybe adding in some of those harmonics.
