I was wondering if you could list some of the more "exotic" languages you are fluent with? Are they all/none/some "dead" languages you work with?

It's weird, I just met a gentleman who moved near me. He's Israeli, and came here from Chicago, where he was studying ancient languages for his religious studies. I never met anyone who did that, and found it 9 (and him) quite fascinating. And it turns out you do something similar...

    ...weird timing, on my end

For my field it's mostly Ancient Greek and Latin. Some Old English.
I'd like to eventually resume my study of Arabic and Ancient Hebrew. Didn't get very far there.

Picking up Italian wasn't difficult, as I know Spanish for familial reasons.
I also know Basque which is rather exotic. Again, for familial reasons.

Yeah, the class of "biologic" medications that are used to treat imflammatory conditions---Crohn's, arthritis, psoriasis, etc.---all carry a black box warning from the FDA, which means they have possible side effects which are life threatening. That includes Humira, Cimzia, Remicade, and all their ilk.

Definitely a case of the cure potentially being worse than the disease. In my case, I reluctantly took them because I couldn't afford to lose more intestine. Otherwise I'd steer clear.

Feel free to ask non-audio related stuff. This is the "random thoughts" section, after all.

@MoatsArt The one part of your question I remember was about the Basque language. This is a pretty good read if you're curious about its history and relationship with other languages: http://hisp462.tamu.edu/Classes/603/Lects/BasqueHist.pdf

Oh wow that is super rare. My grandparents were basque but they spoke more Spanish than basque, so I'll probably never ever learn it at this point!

    1. The New Testament is always a good starting point, even if you're not religious. Each Gospel has its own particular writing style.

Did you ever collect interconnects, power or headphone cables along with your headphone collection?

Nope. Just the cables that came with the headphones.

I've experimented with some high-end interconnects that were loaned to me, and the results were actually more apparent than I would have assumed, but it was maybe like a 2% improvement in instrument separation and spatial cues? For me at the time, they weren't really worth their expensive price. Plus that could have just been temporary insanity, so who knows.

As a collector of IEMs however, some of those fancy little cables are admittedly enticing. Mostly I just want something good from an ergonomic standpoint.

What are your whole IEM inventory and how are you ranking/assessing all IEMs you've had extensive experience with?

Also is a prince qualified to propose to a sultana?

I find that this is actually quite a problem with aftermarket cables. They may sound better, but oftentimes the ones that come with it are super comfortable. I bought a (some color) Dragon cable from Moon Audio for my stupid JH16s. Due to the JH16 designs, they had 2 cables going up to each ear and was super heavy and never not painful. It was a sad use of money, but I didn't return them because I'm a sucker. I love the ergonomics of my UERM cables, sound quality be damned.

Any advice for a young strapping lad who is seeking the love and affection of the female gender?

Saw you talked about ambient music and figured I would give a shameless plug for Tycho. Check out his trilogy of albums in this order: Dive, Awake, and Epoch.

Nice album recommendations @Ryu. We should start an ambient/chilled/electronic/etc music thread. Unless we have one and I just can't find it...
