    I stole this off somewhere else:

    "Not sure why but there's fabric pouches inside each earcup containing a simple LC filter consisting of an electrolytic cap bypassed by a film cap in parallel with a 471uh inductor. Tried removing it and the sound is more open and a little brighter without. First time I've seen a tuning circuit consisting of through hole parts inside a production headphone."

    Sounds like hardware EQ. Would love to see some frequency graphs with and without the lc at some point.

    Can the Cipher cable/dac/amp be used with a 3.5 plug? Is there any advantage to using that dac/amp with them over say the geekout?

    Cipher cable is Lightning connector only, for use with iDevices.

    If a reviewer is incapable of offering any kind of meaningful descriptions of how the headphones sound, the review is pointless. He basically says that they sound detailed/airy, yet not as detailed as other models. Alrighty then.

    I'm wondering what kind of DAC is in the Lightning Cable... did Audeze team up with someone for this? Also, the pouch is weak sauce... at least give us a QC15 style harder case.

    I haven't heard the Oppo PM-3... @Griffon have you heard it? Could you offer any thoughts comparing the two? How about in comparison to the HE-400S?

    I agree with you that the pouch is a joke.

    IMO the SINE are much better than the PM-3. Better clarity, better PRAT, more lively sound, bass goes deeper, treble is more extended. Soundstage is about the same.

    I'm having a lot of fun with my new pair of SINE and the TH-X00.

    I've looked everywhere to find out what DAC is inside the Cipher cable, but no luck. I asked one the Audeze reps too, but he didn't have an answer (Sankar was busy talking to another person).

    Damn. Just caught up with your edits.

    You've heard the LCD series... where do these compare with the LCD-2/3's @Griffon? I found the Jupiters to be almost similar to HD-800's... so what I take from the 650/Jupiter mix is a pair of 650's with a bit more treble energy... does this align with your impressions? Audeze house sound to me was always a lot of bass, clear midrange... maybe not always tonally perfect, but at least concise sounding... treble always fell apart for myself; I think Tyll nailed what was wrong in the treble with his LCD-4 review.

    Great comment updates - I'm damn close to pulling the trigger on these to compare to (or just flat out replace) my PM-3's.

    Question: how is bass tightness on these? You mentioned that they have plenty of extension and solid macrodynamics/slam - but any distracting woolliness? Any mid-range bleed?

    I briefly heard the SINE today. Not comfortable for my ears, but isolation is solid. They also had more pronounced treble than most Audeze I've heard, which was interesting. Technical ability not withstanding I found them livelier than LCD2s and an interesting portable product for people that use that sorta thing.

    Might be a notch filter. Useful for getting rid of peaks and often integrated into speaker XO / EQnetworks. I used a simple RLC network kill the shout on some Fostex drivers: http://www.superbestaudiofriends.or...nd-fostex-blh-speakers.1358/page-3#post-38572

    It's actually a super cool idea. The problem is that varying output impedances of headamps can screw things up.

    @Mikoss

    My two problems with LCD2/3:

    1. Not resolving. I'm not ruling out cherry-picked ones, but all units I've heard (including your old 3) were not resolving in respect to the asking price. If memory serves, SINE in terms of resolution is up to LCD 2.
    2. Hard, hard left-right.

    650/Jupiter mix means that clarity is in-between; moar bass, but not excessive-like Jupiter, a touch more, just enough to deviate from strictly neutral; slightly shelved treble, resulting an energetic, full-bodied higher pitched female voice. The good news is that there is no sibilance and faked details.

    The overall FR seemed very, very coherent.

    @AustinValentine

    Bass is very tight in terms of ortho. I'm a huge fan of BA speed and bass tightness, and SINE falls some hairs behind Jupiter, which is quite good by my standard. Good amplification can enhance bass tightness quite a bit.

    Awesome. Thanks!

    Anyone know how much the Cipher cable is going to cost as a separate accessory? If it's something stupid like ~$150, I'm going to have to pre-order the $499 version with the cable and wait until April for delivery.

    I remember the dealer quoted me 60~80 CAD for a future cipher cable. But after all it's a dealer.

    BTW, SINE is almost criminally thin in accessories.
