Have you compared either of these to the Taboo or csp3?

Beast, ever heard the WA6se? seems to be very competitive in the under 1500$....

great review of the Auris. this make me even more curious about the upcoming Kenzie Encore amp....

I personally like the 'thick' sound of the Mogwai but stock auris vs stock Mogwai has me leaning towards the Mogwai as I like the meaty sound. My Mogwai vs the Auris, has the Mogwai ahead regardless of headphones. I can swap tubes to brighten up the Atticus.

The Kenzie Encore may be in for review as well, if all bodes well.

I'll also be giving impressions on the Encore. I should receive it in around a week

Really digging this amp. The Kenzie is more clear and open in the midrange. My upgraded Mogwai has more clarity and opens the midrange of my Odin up more but the Auris is more versatile and has better control than the Mogwai and snappier / harder attacks than the Kenzie all while having a good midrange as well.

Nice review, I liked it. Any of those a winner on the Eikon?

I like the Eikon on all of them.

I think the Kenzie can make it sing the best and the Auris can make it knock the hardest. For high impedance headphones the Kenzie would be my choice.

I keep hearing good things about the Kenzie. I may have to save for one for use with my Eikon. I am using the Jotunheim which has remarkable clarity and resolution (with any headphone, not just the Eikon) but would like to inject some tube magic without losing that aforementioned clarity and ability to resolve.

Have you considered adding a tube buffer to the Jot? That would get you pretty close to what you are talking about. The Schiit Saga is a fairly common pairing with the Jot but it's hybrid buffer may be a bit too transparent to produce the tube harmonics you are after. I would consider a more colored tube buffer.

I would give this a try with the Jot: https://www.musicdirect.com/preamp/...bjWfGW4x3HS0912caGxHlBB3cNsGjslXMbGgKOJPD_BwE

I enjoy mine. I'm currently using it with a different SS amp but the differences have been pretty noticeable and defiantly positive. You will lose a tiny bit of resolution (once the tube settles down, I would say 95% of the original resolution remains) but the Jot is hyper detailed (based on my impressions when I demoed it) and you may be pleased with the improvements in other areas. If you don't like it, you've got 60 days to return it.

    Just an FYI
One of the drawbacks of the Auris was hum. That hum is now gone at my new location in Phoenix AZ. sounding pretty good

Hi all. Since I just had an experience with this amp, I would like to share my finding. I won't add much, I really agree with what gbeast said on all the line and I am very happy with this amp. I will only comment about the noise since is a scary topic. I bought this amp directly on the auris site since there was a special discount and I was looking for a tube amp to complement my bryston BHA-1. It got to me really quickly and CEO Milomir was super kind with me (he's also passionate about Italy and I'm italian so we got along) explaining the topology and answering my questions. Back to amp, I was really happy with the sound signature, clean fast, power to spare (zmf atticus and lcd2 as load), not so clinical on sub bass as the bryston, but the mids and highs are just marvelous on tubes and this amp executed them in such a lively and realistic way that for me it's ok to have a little trade off on sub bass. BUT yes, with the Atticus, some hum where present while with the LCD2C, it was dead silent. I guess that 100Hz/200Hz noise, when impedance is perfectly matched and knowing Atticus is boosting that frequency range, was being amplified the most. Putting my ear on the transformer, the noise was physically there. Oh yes... I went through the house turning off stuff, the fridge, the lamps etc... but nothing. So i contacted Milomir, and he sent me another one. I actually was not expecting to solve the issue but Mil said it is designed to be noise free and insisted. I got probably the last HA2-SE produced, the input tube was a tungsol instead of a jj (but I tried a gold lion and it was not the issue anyway), and the bulb light was different. Result: still dead silent on lcd2c, much lower supply noise with Atticus. Yes, in a dead silent room you can perceive it, but it is simply super low to almost imperceptible, and it is absolutely lower than any possible listening sound at the lowest volume (while on the previous amp, during some fade off, it could be heard). So it is not super dark oled black background, but it is absolutely fine. And this happened only with Atticus. With any other can I tried included HD650 (friend borrowed), it was really dead silent. So at the end, I am now enjoying this marvelous combo of gungnir MB+ha2se+ Atticus.
Side notes: I don't like the lcd2 mids forwardness, but this amp seems to make the mids "spread" so not all the energy is in just one tone, killing you. I like the lcd2c better on this tube amp.
Other info: Tidal HIFI was used, pc to gungnir MB. Mainly hard rock/metal (David Micic, In Flames, FFDP to give you an idea) and some pop that I'm too ashamed to mention :p

If you can hear hum physically from the transformer itself, it might be DC offset.
The Emotiva CMX-2 could potentially fix the hum

Thanks for the reply! On the new amp, I can't hear any physical noise, the older one it was there. But thanks, it's sure worth to know what can be a solution for that kind of issue.

Just an update: I initially underestimated the added value of the output impedance selector. While with high impedance cans like zmf I find that matching the impedance is the way to go, I recently acquired a focal Clear, and the ability to beef up the bass going from the 50 Ohm to the 150 Ohm (300 on is too mismatched/boomy) is really making the experience much more enjoyable. I can "tune" the Clear on the fly form album to album and I actually find that I like the Clear with a little bass boost. Maybe the ultra fast decay gets a little longer lingering time, but I often like it more this way; anyway, just a click and it's back where it should. I like this a lot!
