We should start selling beer to anyone old enough to buy an AR15.

When I was working in the UK I had an American colleague (NRA member) and friend and from time to time we hit the subject of guns and after some conversations we both understood where the other was coming from (on an intellectual level) yet I could not understand why he would feel safer with a gun in his downtown apartment in the UK and he could not understand why I felt safe being in the streets late at night. We couldn’t even agree to disagree because you cannot disagree about feelings. We had a lot of respect for each other both on a professional and personal level. I cannot imagine that this thread will lead anywhere when a lot of the comments show a lack of respect.

Why should we have any respect for people who want to disarm us?

The correct answer is "f**k you", as someone has already said. I appreciate honesty.

And adding another Trillion Dollars in debt! Here's from the LOL Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/21/...rillion-next-year-budget-office-predicts.html

On topic: NRA has too much power. If I ever want to join a gun group, it won't be them.

Those two positions are not mutually exclusive. I both feel safe being in the streets late at night (unarmed) and safer in my home with a chokeless 12 ga. than without one. False dichotomy I think. As is the idea that I must respect the views of one for whom I have respect as a person.

What the flying f**k is this shit. Create a thread and the first post is nothing but a shove down a shit spiral of calling each other names. There’s no real discussion. Everyone’s mind is already made up in this thread. The rest of the internet is infected with this shit. Don’t bring it here.

I'll answer your questions in a non emotional way in a little bit. This is from an immigrant's point of view, observations and so forth. When I think about it I actually think it is quite fascinating with rationales that are not quite as ridiculous as it may seem to an outsider non-American.

You are assigning a human problem to a particular subset of the world population (Americans), and assume it does not exist in your own backyard.

As an example, the Kingdom of Great Britain used to be an Empire. This was not accomplished by "fist fights", "trial by combat", or no-guns "honourable" means. England is not known as a pacifist country, and has seen a fair share of internal violence and crime.

As far as the law, Mexico considers civilan gun ownership illegal. And the cartels did not give a shit (nor did many of the population).

People will own guns for a simple reason: They exist.

I believe the best defense is to avoid crime infested areas as much as possible, but there are no guarantees. I also believe gun ownership can provide a certain level of security, and in some situations save lives. In some other situations, gun ownership will not help much. Many folks hit by crime organizations (all over the world) had their guns close to their corpses.

BTW, my parents live in El Paso, where that Walmart incident happened.
